Corpus Christi Procession 2025
On Sunday 22 June 2025, several thousand Catholics filled the streets of downtown Portland for a historic Eucharistic Procession with Archbishop Sample. The crowd was remarkable in both size and diversity, with participants from Latino, Asian, African, and Anglo communities. Joining Archbishop Sample were more than 100 altar servers and seminarians, over 20 priests, 8 deacons, and 50 religious brothers and sisters. In his homily at the Mass, the Archbishop stated, “I predict that today is a turning point for the renewal of Christ’s mission in western Oregon.”
As the Mass ended in the packed Cathedral, thousands waited outside for the beginning of the street procession. The bell rang to mark its start. Hymns echoed through the streets in Latin, English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog, and more as the procession stretched across four city blocks. At the conclusion, the Cathedral bell rang out to welcome the return of the Blessed Sacrament and the faithful for final Benediction. The thousands gathered in front of the Cathedral knelt in adoration as Archbishop Sample gave the final Benediction and thanked the faithful for their witness and joy. The crowd, filling three full city blocks, erupted in joyful applause at the close of his words, with over a thousand of Latinos shouting, “¡Viva Cristo Rey!” - (Long live Christ the King)
