Lectors Readers proclaim to the assembly the Word of God as found in the scripture readings of the Mass. This service is critical to the spiritual growth of our community. Readers are needed at all the Masses that take place in our Cathedral: Sundays, special feasts, and weekdays. To become a reader one must be a registered and active parishioner, participate in an orientation and ongoing training, and have the ability to read clearly and with understanding. Orientation sessions are announced in the Parish Bulletin.

Eucharistic Ministers Registered and active parishioners are needed as lay ministers who help with the orderly distribution of the Eucharist at all Masses for Sundays and special feasts. Ministers are asked to participate in a training session. Sessions are announced in the Parish Bulletin.

Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound Each Sunday ministers who are registered parishioners take Communion from the 9am Mass to the sick in their homes. Those who participate in this ministry need a caring spirit, a means of transportation, and a willingness to undergo training.

Ushers, Greeters The role of the ushers and greeters is to provide a welcoming and secure environment, Ushers take up the collection, see that the offertory gifts are brought to the altar, and assist with various situations that might arise. Greeters arrive 20 minutes prior to the service to distribute worship guides and to welcome visitors as well as parishioners at the main and side doors of the church. Orientation sessions for registered parishioners are announced in the Parish Bulletin.

Altar Servers Boys and girls assist at the Masses for Sunday and special occasions. All youth from registered Cathedral families who have received their First Communion and are at least in the fourth grade are eligible. Altar servers who have served regularly and have entered the sixth grade will be eligible for consideration to serve the Archbishop. All altar servers are required to complete training usually a two- part course taking approximately three hours. Training is offered at least once a year and is usually in the Fall. Serving for the Archbishop and other special liturgical celebrations requires additional training. Cathedral Choir Our Cathedral has an excellent four section choir. From September through June the choir practices on Thursday evenings and sings at the 11am Sunday Mass.  It  is also present for special Cathedral liturgies. The principal role of the choir is to lead the congregation in song. But at appropriate times, its gift to the celebrating community is music meant only for listening.

Children’s Choir Temporarily suspended, please check back at a later date.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word At the 9am Sunday Mass, children age four through fourth grade leave before the first reading to hear the lessons of the day’s scriptures explained in simple language. One or two instructors are needed each week. Written materials are available each week for the children to use or take home with them.
